FINANCE, ADMINISTRATION, RECREATION, SERVICE,
ENGINEERING and GORMAN FARM
COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
May 5, 2010
The Finance, Recreation, Service, Engineering and Gorman Farm Committee met at 6:00 pm on May 5, 2010 at the Gorman Heritage Farm. Present were Councilmembers Vonderhaar, Smiley Robertson, and Schaefer. Also in attendance during the meeting were Sandra Murphy, Susan Van Amerongen, and Keith Rummer.
The purpose of the meeting was to begin the process of negotiating a renewal of the lease and contract between the Gorman Heritage Farm and the Village of Evendale.
Before beginning that process several issues of interest concerning the Gorman Farm were discussed. First, the process to have a specific document listing Evendale as an additional insured has begun. Additionally, the Farm is in the process of shopping for insurance. Next, the Farmer has submitted his resignation. His assistant is filling in on an hourly basis. A committee has been formed to evaluate all farming operations. The Shearfest was attended by 700 people. There were 27 new or renewed memberships paid during Shear fest. The Gorman Farm broke even on the event. It cost about $4,000 which matched the approximate income. All invoices from the event have not yet been submitted. An attendee of the Shearfest was involved with the Stillson Foundation. A grant
application in the amount of $10,000 has been submitted based upon the contact at Shearfest. Next year, the event is expected to be restyled as a month long event focusing on Farm Babies.
At the last meeting concerning the Gorman Farm, the committee decided that the best way to proceed would be to go over the existing agreement paragraph by paragraph. The level of compensation would be deferred until later. In pursuing that strategy, the participants have gone through the introductory paragraphs and Chapters 1 through 4 of the existing document.
The next meeting is tentatively set for June 2, 2010 at 6:00pm at the James Gorman Interpretive Building.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.
